Khaled Hosseini uses various symbols and biblical allusions in his novel, ‘The Kite Runner’ to show how each of the characters were connected to each other in more ways than one. Throughout the story the author introduces various symbols that embody biblical teachings, vampirism and the path to redemption. From the start of the novel, Hassan was made out to be the near perfect person who was â€Å"...incapable of hurting anyone† (10, Hosseini). Hassan’s only fault being his Hazara lineage. This mixed with the attention he got from Baba made Amir jealous for the same sort of affection from his father. Hosseini repeatedly employs the use of coincidence and repetition over generations to instill key themes in the novel. From allowing father and son to be very much alike to having the reappearance of symbols that invoke emotion in the characters. It is here that we find the repetition of a key aspect of the novel - vampirism. Hassan’s rape was not solely a biblical allusion of Christ or the sacrificial lamb, in fact it held even more importance. It is this situation that introduces the readers to the vampire characteristics of â€Å"The Kite Runner’s† sole villain, Assef. By taking advantage of Hassan he shows â€Å"selfishness†¦[and] a refusal to respect the autonomy of other people† (16, Foster). Foster explains this situation in chapter three by saying that vampires try to ----explain themselves------ by saying â€Å"In order to remain undead, I must steal the life force of someone whose fate matters less to me than my own† (22). Because there was a need to enforce Capital Punishment, then the strategy basically was to reduce or limit the appeals. By doing so, the criminal justice authority was able to save time and money by the reduction and limitation of appeals. Today the major stock markets are the London Stock Exchange, NYSE Euronext, Hong Kong Stock Exchange, NASDAQ and Shanghai Stock exchange. The recent one is NYSE Euronext, headquartered in New York, was established on 4th April 2007 (NYSE, 2009). London Stock Exchange, being the oldest among these major stock exchanges, has a history of 300 years; though in 1801 it was formally formed under the name of London Stock Exchange. Starting its business in a coffee shop in London, now this exchange has its own TV studios for live financial broadcasts throughout the day. In October 2007 this exchange was merged with Borsa Italiana to emerge as Europe’s foremost exchange business, London Stock Exchange Group. The exchange is having the largest number of countries admitted to trade there, making it the most international among all the stock exchanges of the world (London Stock Exchange, 2009). The very first financial market evolved was Amsterdam stock exchange, in 1600. In 1602 the Dutch East India Company pioneered trading with issuing the first share on this exchange. Even in the 1960s, Amsterdam was the first mover to introduce currency swaps in financial markets. Then the 1970s came with the innovation of some new instruments. Floating rate instruments, trading of futures on foreign currency, interest rates and on stock market indices were introduced within this period. Whenever one instrument is introduced, the market remains mostly unregulated. After a certain time, regulatory constraints get introduced to make the market more regulated and more liquid. For an example when floating rate instruments came into the picture, it was the first instrument that was linked to a floating interest rate (LIBOR).
